Alpine Auto Repair
Rob and Claudia Rowsell moved to Alpine in 2004, from Mesa, Az. They moved back to the East County to be closer to Rob's family, who has lived here for more than 40 years.
Rob grew up in the East County, living in El Cajon and Lakeside as a child. He moved to Arizona in 1994, and that is where he and Claudia met. They wanted to move back to California sooner, but just did not know how to pull it off. Rob had been working as a Automotive Service Advisor for a very successful auto repair chain for many years, while Claudia was working for a doctor's office in the accounts payable/receivable department.
Then, one day, they learned from Rob's father that there was an auto repair shop in Alpine for sale and the rest, as they say, is history!
Alpine Auto Repair is truly a family business with Rob's son, Micah, working in the parts department, and his daughter, Stephanie, who is 13, helping check customers out after school. Rob and Claudia are Alpine residents and they are very active in the Alpine Community. They are members of Bethel Christian Assembly, located at 1929 Arnold Way, on the corner of Arnold Way and Tavern Road, where they are involved in many ministries. Rob is an Ambassador with the Alpine Chamber of Commerce, and they are members of the East County Chamber of Commerce, La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, the Alpine Kiwanis Club and the Alpine Business Networking Association.
In 2010, they have had the good fortune of purchasing a second auto repair shop, Bob Bowen's Auto Service, located at 7191 Alvarado Road in La Mesa. You may have seen it from the I-8 freeway (at the 70th street exit) as you have driven by. It is a 25 bay, 10,000 square foot shop that services all makes and models, just like Alpine Auto Repair. It, too offers the same NATIONAL warranty as Alpine Auto Repair. Please visit the website for more information at www.BobBowensAutoService.com.
The best part of Rob and Claudia's story, however, is how far they have come outside of the business arena. It was not long ago, just 13 years, when they were living on the streets homeless! Rob is a recovered Crystal Meth/Crack Cocaine addict that was unable to get his life together and Claudia was just praying that he would change. And he did! Through their Faith in God, everything has changed. If you were to say to Rob that you would never have known that part of their story just by looking at them, Rob would chime in without hesitation and say, "That's right, Jesus hides that pretty good, doesn't He?"
From homeless to homeowner to Sunday School teacher to church board member to multiple business owner, and beyond, in just 13 years! One of Rob and Claudia's favorite sayings is "The Best is Yet to Come". Rob is convinced that every day he is alive is truly a gift from God, and he also believes that how he lives his life is his gift back to God. He strives to be the best that he can be in all areas. Watch the video below to hear Rob's story.
"The same God that got me off drugs and alcohol got me clean from cigarettes and allowed me to lose 70 lbs as well." He has not only kept that weight off, but has even completed 2 half marathon's in the past year and a half, and is training for his next one this September.
Rob loves sharing their story because he knows how hopeless his situation appeared to so many, and he knows that the family members of others that are currently in the depths of addiction need to know that there is hope!
